What's this thing?

Cover for What's this thing?

I'm in a constant struggle to discover music. I love songs, but I'm not listening all the time. I don't like to put the radio (or the current algorhitmic equivalents), because I want to know what I'm gonna listen. These things make it difficult to discover new songs.

I rely a lot on recommendations, playlist from friends, music from movies, things like that. Serendipity most of the time.

I also have two things: I'm crazy about song trivia. If there's an interesting detail behind the lyrics, or a musical reference to another band, I will most likely like the song. The second is that I'm a very emotional listener. Some songs get to my insides and make its home there. Others can be musical masterpieces but I might find them soulless.

And yeah, I know I have such a nerve to say those kind of things, knowing next to nothing about music. But it is what it is, and I'm definitely not sorry (anymore).

And going back to the title of this entry: this is a collection of songs (or albums) that I do like. Songs that I discover and touch something, and things that I relisten constantly. These are my recommendations for you, and a journal for me.

Oh, and about the name "The Headphonist": it comes from a Kinky's song about a person wearing headphones while going about their day, and being guided on their actions by what they're listening to.

And I really wanna run, but at this moment I’m listening to a very quiet song.

Also, I like headphones.

My name is Axel, I live in Mexico, and I like songs.
