No tengo ganas

Cover for No tengo ganas

I didn't know the band Intoxicados. I stumbled upon them today through my last.fm recommendations, and was met with this song, which I loved immediately.

At first I thought it was the lyrics. I like simple songwriting, the kind that uses simple words to convey strong feelings. It starts like this:

No tengo ganas de seguir
Pero tampoco tengo ganas de parar
Tendría que pensar que me esta pasando
Pero es que estoy cansado de pensar.

In English, without the rhyming:

I don't feel like keep going
But I also don't want to stop
I should think about what's happening to me
But I'm also tired of thinking

It's so simple and generic, yet it perfectly describes a mental state of depression that keeps you from functioning properly, and anxiety that doesn't allow you to let go. And I'm pretty familiar with that feeling.

Later in the day, I was driving to get food with my girlfriend and I played it for her. Her comment was: "Of course you love it! it sounds exactly like Andrés Calamaro!"

And it does. It really does. Especially the live version (here in the Apple Music link). Apparently I can't stop listening to Calamaro, even when I'm not actually listening to Calamaro.

Anyway, I need to keep exploring the band, but this song is here to stay.
